Imparting education is not just about teaching children to read and write. Education is about enabling children to grow as responsible citizens of the country and of the world, to look beyond the narrow domestic walls we have grown familiar with, and to become the change we want, in the world around us. This has been the vision that has guided St. Helen’s Secondary School for the last 134 years of its existence since 1890. Strategies and programs have evolved, but our vison remains the same.In the words of Mother Marie Therese, the founder of ‘Daughters of the Cross’ “Education is not merely the imparting of knowledge, but the training of the judgement is its most important work, for this will enable the growing children to appreciate things.” We can’t do this alone. This is where we sisters, teachers, and parents need to join our hands together to make sure that our children get the best opportunities because they deserve them. Let us work together to humanise our education and educate our children to be better human beings.
